‘Four Men Holding Roman Column’ – Fintan Magee mit neuem Mural in Goa // Indien
Die großartigen Arbeiten von Street Artist Fintan Magee finden bekanntlich schon seit einigen Jahren in steter Regelmäßigkeit Beachtung hier bei uns auf WHUDAT (Features). Erst in der vorletzten Woche durften wir beispielsweise ein herrliches Kollabo-Artwork bestaunen, welches in Zusammenarbeit mit Guido Van Helten in Tehran entstand. Heute bekommen wir direkt frisches Material vom umtriebigen Mr.Magee serviert. Im indischen Goa entstand jüngst ein erneut ziemlich beeindruckendes Mural unter dem Titel ‘Four Men Holding Roman Column’. Das Wandbild zeigt vier örtliche Arbeiter, welche den Sockel einer römischen Säule halten. Die Kolonne soll hier als Symbol für Reichtum, Opulenz und imperiale Macht dienen. Die Arbeiter bilden das Fundament des Ganzen und halten quasi mühelos das Gleichgewicht. India has more foreign workers than any other nation with 16 million people living and working outside of the country. While many workers contribute to Health, Technology, Education and other skilled service jobs many others end up in low paid, labour intensive jobs in the construction industry. In countries on the Arabian-peninsula major projects such as the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah and the World Cup stadiums in Qatar are highly dependent on Indian labour. Many countries have been criticized by human rights groups for their treatment of foreign workers. Painted in Goa, India, this painting depicts four local workers holding a base of a Roman column. The column acts as a symbol of wealth, opulence and imperial power. The workers form the foundation of the structure, holding balance effortlessly.
