“TypeTatts” – Old School Tattoos That Pay Tribute To Famous Typefaces

In unregelmäßigen Abständen präsentieren wir Euch an dieser Stelle bekanntlich immer mal wieder, durchaus beeindruckende Arbeiten diverser internationaler Artists aus dem Bereich der Tintenkunst wie z.B. Xoil (Frankreich), Jay Freestyle (Niederlande) oder Valentina Ryabova (Russland). Heute kommen die Tattoo-Freunde mit Typografie-Fetisch auf ihre Kosten. Der aus São Paulo stammende Designer Will Jr. hat nämlich eine ganze Rutsche eher unkonventioneller Old School Tattoos entworfen, welche als Hommage an bekannte Typefaces wie Helvetica, Garamond oder Futura zu verstehen sind. Er selbst sagt über sein Projekt “TypeTatts“: “Some illustrations/temporary tattoos inspired by typography and old school tattoos. Like almost all tattoo lovers, I’m a great fan of old school tattoo artworks, the simplicity and precision in each line, the way to draw something simple but at same time with a lot of details and ideas behind the concept blows my mind and inspires me a lot. Old school tattoos always show me the simplest and beautiful way to illustrate an idea.” Und so sieht das Ganze dann aus:

Based in São Paulo, Brazil, designer Will Jr. has created a series of temporary tattoos that feature well-known typefaces, including Helvetica, Garamond and Futura. Inspired by old school tattoo artworks, each of these designs consist of a single letter that is surrounded by decorative elements like floral motifs—the name of the typeface is spelled out on a banner placed across the letter. For instance, the Raleway tattoo features the letter ‘C’, while the Playfair one is built around the letter ‘D’.
