“The Water Carriers” – A Mirror Installation That Shows Syrian Refugee Children by Street Artist Fintan Magee in Sydney // Australia

Der für seine politischen und gesellschaftskritischen Artworks bekannte Street Artist Fintan Magee, bereist seit geraumer Zeit den gesamten Globus, um seine Kunst an möglichst vielen Orten der Welt zu verbreiten. Aktuell befindet sich Fintan Magee in seiner australischen Heimat und fertigte jüngst in Sydney, mit “The Water Carriers” eine imposante Spiegel-Installation. Inspiration zu seinem aktuellen Artwork lieferte eine Aufnahmen von 7 syrischen Flüchtlingskindern, eines nicht bekannten Fotografen aus einem entsorgten Zeitungsausschnitt. Check out Street Artist Fintan Magee’s newest installation which was just completed somewhere on the streets of Sydney, Australia. The image of the children is taken from a photograph from a discarded newspaper clipping. The work shows seven Syrian refugee children, at first they appear as regular children but as you step deeper into the space the mirrors we installed distort the image and you discover that the line of children stretches infinitely. The children wait to fill empty water vessels which is a symbol for the healing component. The work comments on the scale of the current refugee crisis and echo’s a cynical view on how history repeats itself.
