Gregory Colbert Photography – Ashes and Snow (24 Pictures)

Nach dem Posting des “Beethoven Hall”-Apartments wurde in den Comments über die Bilder dort in den Räumen gesprochen und da ich ohnehin immer mal ein Gregory Colbert-Portrait machen wollte, nehme ich das mal zum Anlass. Der aus Toronto/Kanada kommende Fotograf Gregory Colbert ist am bekanntesten für seine Bilderserie “Ashes and Snow“, von der ich hier mal ein paar Bilder rübergeholt habe. Er reiste durch Indien, Burma, Sri Lanka, Ägypten, Äthiopien, Kenya, Tonga, Namibia (werde ich in 2013 auch mal hin!) und an die Antarktis, um Bilder von den Interaktionen zwischen Mensch und Tier aufzunehmen. Seit 1992 fanden mehr als 60 solcher Expeditionen statt, es entstanden Bilder mit über 130 Spezien. In 2002 hat Colbert seine “Ashes and Snow” Arbeiten das erste Mal in Venedig vorgestellt und wurde mit Lob überschüttet, in “The Globe and Mail” vom 09. April war zu lesen:

“Colbert unveiled Ashes and Snow, an exhibition of images and photographs unprecedented in both scope and scale. Covering 12,600 square meters, it is billed as one of the largest one-man shows in the history of Europe.”

Im Frühling 2005 wurde “Ashes & Snow” dann in Ney York, im Nomadic Museum ausgestellt, anschließend ging es mit dem Bildern nach Santa Monica (2006), Tokyo (2007) und Mexico City (2008). Insgesamt haben bis jetzt über 10 Millionen Ausstellungs-Besucher diese Bilder gesehen – wodurch sie zur meistbesuchten Ausstellung in der Geschichte eines lebenden Künstlers wurde.
