Peebs The Prophet – “Ills of the Earth EP” (Prod. Phoniks & BluntOne)
Hier haben wir etwas Neues aus dem “Don’t Sleep Records”-Umfeld, welches von den Herrschaften Awon & Phoniks gegründet wurde. Es handelt sich um eine EP von dem aus Portland kommenden MC Peebs The Prophet, der hier mit 6 neuen Tracks um die Ecke kommt. Die Beats kommen von Phoniks und von BluntOne, als Feature-Gäste bekommen wir Awon und Dephlow zu hören. Musikalisch geht es wie gewohnt eher düster zur Sachen, die Beat-Ästhetik würde ich als jazzy Boombap bezeichnen. Und wie rapt man über solche Beats? Natürlich so, wie man es in den besten Golden Era-Zeiten, Mitte der 90er in New York tat – so, wie es Peebs The Prophet auf “Ills of the Earth” tut. I like that:
