“The Sea” – Great Paintings that give the Illusion of blurry Photographs by Philip Barlow
Vor einigen Jahren wurden wir erstmals auf die Öl-Gemälde des aus Südafrika stammenden Künstlers Philip Barlow aufmerksam. Mit einer Reihe von Artworks der Serie “Summer in the City“, welche auf den ersten Blick wie unscharfe Fotografien daherkommen, konnte uns der Maler bereits 2012 schwer begeistern. Auch in der Gemälde-Reihe “The Sea” bleibt Barlow seinem bekannten Stil treu und beschert uns traumhafte Einblicke in das Beach-Life seiner Heimat. Über die besondere Umsetzung seiner Kunst ließ der Mann aus Riebeeck Kasteel Folgendes verlauten: “The figures in the landscape serve as carriers and reflectors of the light that falls upon them. Bathed in the luminosity, it is my hope that they would become more beautiful. Paintings that give the illusion of blurry photographs of beach life by South African artist Philip Barlow. Working in the tradition of landscape painting, Barlow uses the blurry effect to hint at forms and shapes that leaves much to the imagination of the viewer. He describes them as “a landscape less ordinary; where the line between the physical and the spiritual realm has seemingly been removed.” Although not intended to be of a surreal nature, he hopes that the paintings “will seem curiously familiar and convincingly real.”
