“The Millennial Gang” – Mini Superheroes & Villains Illustrated As Troubled Millennial Kids by Simóne van der Spuy
Die Künstlerin Simóne van der Spuy widmet dem fiktiven Nachwuchs zahlreicher, bekannter Superheroes & Villains, eine ganze Rutsche durchaus sehenswerter Illustrationen. Die Kids werden hier als Teile der sogenannten Generation Y aka Millennials von der jungen Dame aus Kapstadt/Südafrika dargestellt, welcher bekanntlich Eigenschaften wie Narzissmus, Faulheit oder Unentschlossenheit nachgesagt werden. Zu sehen bekommen wir unter anderem Superboy auf Ritalin, Instagram-Star Yoda II oder Flash II optimiert durch Fitness-Supplements. Einige Illustrationen, welche unter anderem der Frage nachgehen, ob die geerbten Superkräfte in unserer heutigen Gesellschaft von diesen Kids auch ausgelebt werden könnten oder als dysfunktionalen Störungen behandelt würden, lassen sich direkt hier unten begutachten. Over the past few years I have noticed that society has a lot to say about the millennial generation. People born in this period have been described as narcissistic, entitled, lazy and indecisive (to mention just a few traits). Generations always find fault with those that come after them, and there is no denying that the younger children of today are surrounded with a much higher level of social pressure than ever before. But does this mean that there is validity in the claims about the younger generation? If superheroes and villains had children that were born into this age- would they be able to cope? I illustrated a series of millennial mini superheroes and villains to find out what they could possibly be like – and if their inherited super powers/abilities would be affected in any way by the dysfunctional aspects of our society. – Simóne van der Spuy
